911 dispatchers in Kanawha County are reporting that there has been an explosion at the Bayer Cropscience Plant in Institute. Reports indicate that fire is shooting into the air from the plant. 911 dispatchers say people should stay in their homes and stay clear of the area. Route 25 is shut down at this time. UPDATE @ 1:21am State Fire Marshal Sterling Lewis says that there is the possibility for more explosions at the plant. UPDATE @ 12:45am An emergency worker at the scene says that one of the chemicals possibly involved is methomyl. The chemical plant reported that it is not toxic yet METHOMYL, which is assumed to be involved in this explosion has a high acute toxicity to humans according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
