Gustav batters Jamaica
August 29, 2008 | Kingston, Jamaica | Vetting explained
The effects of Gustav have been devastating to many. Approximately 1000 persons have been displaced, and at this time there have been unconfirmed reports that 11 persons have been killed as a result of this tropical storm.
The pictures show Harbour View Bridge over the Hope River. One side has been washed away allowing no-one to pass. This is the bridge which connects Kingston to the parish of St. Thomas (the eastern part of the island).
The other pictures are of the Caribbean Sea alongside the road which leads to the Norman Manley International Airport. The waves are dangerously high.
The last picture illustrates how much rain has fallen - the basement parking lot of a shopping mall in Kingston.
