This is going to be a very close and exciting election. I must say that I am a democrat from Arkansas. Obama praises Hillary for the barriers she broke and the historical campaign she ran. He runs his whole campaign on the theme of change, attempts to separate himself from the "establishment" and "old Washington politics". And then what does he do? He overlooks the fact that Hillary clinton would boost his campaign enought to actually make the dream come true. He overlooks the fact that possibly more voters supported her than him. He overlooks the fact that women all across america went above and beyond to have their voices heard. He then goes to the United States senate and recruits a man that is the mirror image of "old school Washington politics" . How do you possibly deny that when he was elected at 29 years old, and having served thirty-six years in that place that Barack Obama has condemned so heavily his whole campaign. It's almost as if he speaks with a forked tongue. On the other side of the fence, you have John McCain, who is doing exceptionally well against the democrats this year flying in on this "maverick" theme that appears do be doing quite well for him. In a year that was gift wrapped for democrats, we have somehow managed to allow the republicans an opportunity to actually compete, even after we have 8 years of literal destruction to the United States economy. It doesnt really take a genius to see that democrats are in trouble despite what they would love to think. McCain steps out in an attempt to recruit disgruntled Hillary supporters like myself by recruiting a female governor for the vice presidential slot from Alaska. Although I am glad to see that there is a woman on the republican ticket, I am kind of upset to think that republicans believe that putting someone on their ticket of the female gender will actually make us overlook our convictions of the democratic platform. It's almost a slap in the face in my opinion. Although I have nothing bad to say about Palin, I feel as if she is a token simply to draw the undecided voters. I am not sure that will work, though applause to the republican strategists for their beliefs that we democrats are so simple minded.
Bottom Line:
Joe Biden would have been an excellent choice for anyone other than Barack Obama.
Sarah Palin could be the white horse for John McCain.
Its all in the air from this point. all that was for certain is that democrats should have won this won hands down. John McCain shouldn't have made it this far. So far both candidates have defied the odds. I think you have an extremely close election, and I also think it shows that Barack is weaker than expected and McCain is a republican with some values not exactly typical of hard-headed republicans.
My hat is off to McCain for the campaign that no other republican could have ran against democrats this year.
Democrats (and I am one) I am not so sure we nominated the right person, but time will tell.
