Roger Bowers as Bozo The Clown
September 1, 2008 | Elizabethton, Tennessee | Vetting explained
I played Bozo The Clown on WJHL-TV in 1961 for about a year, in Johnson City, Tennessee. It was one of the best times in my life..our TV station did not have video equipment yet so, I don't have any video of my shows. This is the only picture I have left. I still have letters from fans and photos of private appearances at schools, etc. I put on my own makeup 5 days a week and made my own props for the show. I also had a ventriliquist dummy called...Butch...like the character in the cartoon. We had a live studio audience and did games and skits in between cartoons, which was the usual format. At one time Larry Harmon was going to have a convention of sorts of all the "Bozo's"...I don't know if he did or not. My voice was exactly like the cartoon voice of Bozo as well as my costume. Best of Luck to all of you in your life....Bozo The Clown/Roger Bowers

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
on air, or on any of CNN's platforms.
