iReport —
Yesterday I wrote about how Governor Sarah Palin's history and accomplishments, her persistence in getting things done, and her renegade reputation among seasoned (and sometimes corrupt) politicians have caused me to seriously reconsider my own options and participation in politics ( http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-75355). Her speech last night served as further inspiration. She is a fantastic speaker whether she is being serious or witty. She showed toughness at times without any unseemly aggressiveness. After being attacked for days by people that don't agree with her religious views she didn't waver for a second. But more importantly, she addressed the issue that is most important to me. I realize my experience as a nuclear engineer may make some dismiss views, but I have said since the last election that energy issues would soon constitute the greatest challenge facing our country. I was right. She embraces the same approach to energy that I advocate. Sure, I was pleased that she specifically noted nuclear, but she also realizes that we will need to thoughtfully develop and deploy all energy technologies if we are to meet power demands in a way that protects our economy and minimizes our impact on the environment. In addition to nuclear, she mentioned natural gas, clean coal and renewables. And she rightly pointed out that we must tap our own abundent natural resources in the near-term while we plan for the diverse energy portfolio of the future. Governor Palin has energized this campaign and she's energized me. I can't wait to see what she and McCain do next.
