I hadn't even heard of the top 7 Palin lies/myths until I read the article posted on Fox yesterday. I don't know how many are media stories or blog lies created to purport a smear campaign against her -- Republican strategy at it's finest! However I know for a fact the Barack Obama lies/myths purported here have made it into the media spotlight, and not just on blogs!

1) Barack Obama is a Muslim in disguise

THE CHARGE: This rumor surfaced heavily around the time Obama announced his run for president. The argument was basically that he attended a muslim school for two years, his father was a radical muslim, and various photos showing Barack Obama wearing what appears to be muslim attire helped fuel this misconception.

THE FACTS: For more than 20 years Barack Obama has pledged his devotion to the Christian faith, as well as attended regular Sunday service at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. His father was at one time a muslim who became an Atheist. The photos in question were of a trip Barack Obama took to Africa in which he  posed for a photo-op wearing the outfit as a sign of respect, not because he is muslim.

2) Barack Obama was sworn in with a Qu'ran.

THE CHARGE: Barack Obama was sworn into office with his hand on a Qu'ran instead of the Bible.

THE FACTS: In Nov 2006 Keith Ellison became the first member of congress of muslim faith, however when the media got wind of this story they for some reason associated it with Barack Obama, who was actually sworn in with his own family Bible. It's interesting to note that for the photograph session following Ellison's swearing in, he and Nancy Pelosi placed their hands on a Qu'ran that was once owned by Thomas Jefferson, but he was never sworn into office with it. This is false.

NOTE: The teachings of the Qu'ran don't dismiss Jesus or Moses, rather the opposite it unequivocally proves them. The Qu'ran is not anti-jew/Christian as most would have you believe.

3) Obama attended a Madrassa for four years.

THE CHARGE: While in Indonesia, Barack Obama attended a Madrassa for 4 years, the further claim was that the Madrassa actually taught a Wahhabi Doctrine that denies non-muslims rights.

THE FACTS: In a Barack Obama statement of Jan 23rd he indicated that he attended 2 years of Catholic school and two years at a public school in Indonesia, furthermore the school he attended in Jakarta is a public school that has never been a Madrassa.

4) Obama tried to hide his smoking addiction.

THE CHARGE: Obama smoking habits are "a dirty little secret" and he's trying to hide them.

THE FACTS: There are many Senators that smoke, most of them smoke cigars. Obama indicated in DEC 2005 to the Chicago Tribune that his smoking habits were known in 2004 and that his addiction is an uphill battle. Obama has never denied that he smokes, he also has never really volunteered the information other than a few rare instances.

NOTE: Fred Thompson smokes cigars which contain 10-20 times as much nicotine are regular cigarettes.

5) Barack Obama and the "Shady" Land Deal

THE CHARGE: Obama was involved in a "shady" real estate transaction with Tony Rezko.

THE FACTS: Many articles were written about the deal, one indicated Obama had "ethics" issues, another ran the caption "BarackWater", and claimed such a shady deal had taken place, however the article never actually provided any evidence of wrongdoing. In fact under normal circumstances the deal would have never even be questioned, however Senators and Presidential candidates are scrutinized much more. To this day NO evidence has been brought forward to suggest ANYTHING was done illegally. These allegations showed a relationship between Obama and Rezko, and some think that there was political motivation for that very reason -- even if Obama did nothing wrong.

6) Obama has never introduced a Bill in Congress

THE CHARGE: Former Clinton Advisor / now Fox political Advisor Dick Morris falsely claimed on FOX that Obama has never introduced a Bill in Congress.

THE FACTS: Prior to the December 18, 2006 Morris statement, Barack Obama was the primary sponsor on 152 Bills, and on December 8, 2006 had just passed bill(s.2125) "to promote relief, Security and democracy in the democratic Republic of Congo." In addition more than 14 bills that Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored have become law.
