PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER AND INFORMATION
Produced and issued by Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC
President, Christian Democratic Party, 1/963 Pacific Highway Pymble 2073 NSW

APOLOGY:
We apologise for the previous errors in the sending of this President's Report but we are having some irregular issues with our CDP NSW State Office emailing management list system.
I felt that it is important to keep you all fully informed of the issues surrounding the current public controversy between Fred Nile and Gordon Moyes especially since the media outlets of Crickey.com and The Sun Herald have gone public with articles that contain many incorrect facts and assertions.
We expect that Fred Nile will respond further in the next few days to The Sun Herald article to set the record straight yet again. In the meantime please bear with us as we try to keep you up-to-date with developments and provide you with accurate facts on all matters presented in the media.
Please forgive us for any inconvenience or distress these email problems may be causing you.
If you have any comment in support of Fred Nile or Gordon Moyes or question about these issues please feel free to send me an email on statemanager@cdp.org.au so I can respond to you personally.
Thanks and God bless you,
Wally Vanderpoll
CDP NSW State Manager / Director

Fred Nile's Presidential Email - 5th September 2008

Re Gordon Moyes' "A Christian Voice in Politics" 28th August 2008

Introduction:
Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ. This morning in our morning Devotions, Elaine and I were reading the Gospel of John, Chapter 13, where Jesus washes the disciples feet. When Jesus came to the Apostle Peter he objected and said "You shall never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me". Peter said to Jesus "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head"!

Jesus' humble conduct was not because He forgot His rank as incarnate God the Son. His act demonstrates that rank and privilege are not occasions for arrogance, but are higher credentials for service.

In v15, Jesus said "I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you".

We therefore see that the humility of Jesus is a pattern for His disciples, you and me. Instead of aspiring to dominate, we must be eager to serve (cf Matthew 20:25-28 and Philippians 2:5-8).

RESPONSE: 'WHEN YOU DO GOOD AND SUFFER IF YOU TAKE IT PATIENTLY, THIS IS COMMENDABLE BEFORE GOD" (1 Peter 2:20-25).

When I received Gordon's Email which he sent, as he claims, to 10,000 people, I felt very disappointed that a fellow Christian and Member of the Christian Democratic Party should take such an action, especially as it clearly contains many factual errors.

As a result of these factual errors, I have an obligation to set the record straight and prevent sincere Christians being led astray.

  1. STATE CONVENTION GALA DINNERGordon refers to the State Convention. On Saturday we held a Gala Dinner, organised by our Young CDP, to help us enjoy our Christian fellowship in a happy, enjoyable atmosphere. Gordon and I were to give the Dinner Addresses.

Imagine my shock when Gordon used the opportunity to attack me and our CDP policies and priorities and urged us to follow Barack Obama's model. He stated I should resign in 2009 and give my Seat to an unknown young man, under 40 years.

Gordon's demand ignored the fact I was only re elected last year with a greatly increased vote of nearly 200,000 supporters, to whom I have a responsibility to serve in the NSW Parliament for as long as God calls me. The Convention delegates met this surprise attack with shocked silence and, finally, half hearted applause.

In my Address, I had no option but to respond, not in an angry manner, but firmly and with strong conviction.

I stated that in my 27 years in Parliament I had gathered a great deal of experience in dealing with the various Governments, whether ALP or Liberal, and that a young person who was wet behind the ears would be mince meat in the Upper House.

After my Address, I went up to Gordon and shook his hand, saying "No hard feelings Gordon" because I knew he would be angry at my direct response to his Address. He held me in a Latham-style grip and said, with venom, "The fight has only just begun"!

Gordon's Email on the 28/8/08 was the first broadside in that fight!

  1. ROMANS CHAPTER 13Gordon's Email is critical of my application of Romans Chapter 13 to my role in the NSW Parliament. He strongly claims that I believe every Member of Parliament must support every piece of legislation! I agree that is a ridiculous suggestion.

I agree that our aim must be to improve legislation, which I frequently do, with Amendments. Sometimes it will require voting against bad legislation, which I have done on a number of occasions, legislation such as voting against Marijuana Bills, the Kings Cross Injecting Room, the Cloning Bill, Brothel Bills, Poker Machine Bills, Same Sex Lesbian Bill, Homosexual Bills, Republican Bills etc etc.

  1. ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY BILLI have had NO discussions with the Government over this legislation, which has constantly changed since it was first proposed. The Government finally planned:
i) To retain all the transmission requirements, poles, wiring in public ownership.
ii) To sell the retain Electricity agencies.
iii) To lease the generators, which would eventually revert to public ownership.

I was concerned over a number of matters, which the Government guaranteed, such as a 5- year protection for all jobs, fiscal price control until at least 2013.

As the Opposition opposed the Bills, it was pointless to continue, so the Government adjourned the Parliament until 23rd September 2008.

It is now absolutely clear that this decision by the Opposition, has been a heavy blow to the NSW financial stability and a drop in the NSW Credit Rating.

  1. SAME SEX (LESBIAN) RELATIONSHIPS BILLGordon rightly states that I successfully amended this Bill, so as to restore fathers' rights and paternity leave etc. I NEVER agreed I would then vote for the Bill and I strongly OPPOSED it.
It is a lie for Gordon to imply that I have agreed to vote for all ALP Bills. After I give my response I always say to the ALP, I do not speak for Gordon Moyes, please approach him direct.

Contrary to Gordon's claim, I have never sought "for respectability or status" which is Gordon's aim in life! (Refer to Gordon's Application for the position of President of the Upper House, which is attached). After I nominated him as President, because of his bullying threat to divide the CDP if I did not nominate him, he only received 2 votes - his and mine!

  1. FAMILY WORLD NEWSGordon sarcastically objects to me, as Editor, including group photographs that include me. I am only reporting to our CDP Members and Constituents my monthly activities as their CDP representative by word and photograph - as one photograph equals 1000 words. I do this at the request of our supporters, as the media seldom reports what I do.

  1. CHAIRMAN OF PARLIAMENTARY INQUIRIESGordon is jealous that I have been elected to be Chairman of important Inquiries. I would be failing in my duty as an MP if I did not accept these responsibilities and do a professional, unbiased job. Please refer to the attached SMH report by Michael Duffy on my Donations and Public Funding Inquiry.

ALEX MITCHELL
Gordon uses as his authority Alex Mitchell, formerly the Sun Herald political reporter, who has been a long time enemy of my role in the Parliament. Alex Mitchell's only references to my positive role in Parliament has been ridicule and sarcasm because of my outspoken stand on moral issues, including the homosexual Mardi Gras etc. (For his prejudice against me please read his Cricky.com Report dated 3/9/08).

  1. JOHN WATKINSGordon quotes John Watkins' reference to me "We can always count on Fred's vote". I have NEVER discussed these issues or Bills with John Watkins and have NEVER given him that assurance.

However, all MPs know that the CDP policy is to work with the elected Government that has a mandate, from the people of NSW, to govern the State of NSW.

  1. ASSISTANT PRESIDENTGordon repeats his false allegations regarding my position of Assistant President. Unfortunately Gordon cannot count. The Government needed 3 votes to get its legislation passed. They could count on 2 Shooters Party MPs and needed one CDP Member. As the Government does not trust Gordon, they obviously seek my support so Motions or Bills are passed by 19 votes to 18 votes, as occurred on Thursday 28th August, 2008.

Senior ALP Government Members told me confidentially in 2006, that they were considering the nomination of non Government Members as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and as President of the Legislative Council. I said I would accept the nomination, should it come to fruition, and, should I be re elected in 2007.

In 2007 the Government, for the first time, proceeded to nominate an Independent, Richard Torbay MP, as Speaker. Unfortunately, there were objections by the Left Wing Members of the ALP to my nomination as President, so it did not occur.

The ALP Government representatives then asked me would I accept the position of Assistant President, originally Assistant Deputy President. As I was to assist the President the title was amended to Assistant President.

The issue of a Supplementary Allowance was and is of no interest to me, which is why I have never claimed the Chairman's Allowance when I have Chaired many Inquiries.

Obviously the Opposition tried to cause mischief over my appointment and play politics, by attacking the Government.

I regard Gordon's criticism as a result of his intense jealousy and unhappiness of his rejection as President, by all Members of the Upper House.

  1. FRED NILE'S PENSIONThe most serious allegation, which Gordon frequently makes and is the basis of a defamation case against him, is the issue of my Pension.

Gordon makes false claims without any attempt to check the facts.

When I turned 65 years of age, the Parliamentary Pension Administrators told me to cash out my Pension and claim the 12% of the salary I had contributed every month for over 17 years together with the Superannuation addition, which I did.

I forfeited the small remaining Pension when I resigned to stand for the Senate in 2004.

I do NOT have a Pension. When I retire I will receive NO Pension from the NSW Parliament!

However, Gordon Moyes will receive his Pension when, as he has previously announced, he retires in 2009.

  1. PALATIAL NEW HOME???Elaine and I have downsized! We downsized in 2007 and moved into a small villa, two bedrooms and one office - a villa, which is half the size of Gordon Moyes' Central Coast residence. Elaine and I own one holiday house which we rent out and which has a $380,000 mortgage.

  1. NEW LUXURY CARIn June 2008 I traded in my Holden Statesman for a new Holden Statesman, which is the same model as Gordon Moyes' Holden Statesman! I have never claimed to be a poor "parson" or a multi millionaire!

My earlier vehicles were Toyota Land Cruisers for carrying heavy loads of Election and Family World News materials over long distance CDP Country Tours for campaign meetings. Toyota Land Cruisers were more expensive then Holden Statesman cars.

FINALLY
Gordon seems to have made a pact with the "devil" - Alex Mitchell as his guide and mentor.

I will continue to trust the Lord Jesus Christ, with all my human failures, as a sinner saved by grace.

2008 CDP CONVENTION ELECTION RESULTS
Alex Mitchell, under the direction of unknown persons, has done a hatchet job on our Council AGM, which he has published in Crikey.com as well as personally attacking me in almost the same words as Gordon Moyes.

I attach the response by Wally Vanderpoll, our NSW CDP State Manager/Director:

"Fred Nile's coup inside Christian Democrats" correction published in Crickey.com on 3/9/2008:
"Walter Vanderpoll, CDP NSW State Manager/Director, writes : Re. "Re. " Fred Nile's coup inside Christian Democrats" (published in on Crickey.com Monday, 1/9/2008: item 10). Your article regarding Fred Nile and the CDP NSW Annual Convention needs some corrections:

  1. Under the original CDP NSW Constitution (dated 2001 and amended in 2006), the NSW State President, Rev Fred Nile, has always been entitled to remain the State President until he resigns or dies.
  2. Rev Dr Gordon Moyes declined to accept his Jnr Deputy President nomination at the CDP NSW AGM so it was his choice to not stand for election to the CDP NSW Management Committee.
  3. Ken Gregory is still the CDP National Secretary and Party Agent, he was just legitimately and democratically defeated for the new CDP NSW Secretary position by Elwyn Sheppard (previously CDP "Minutes" Secretary for 3-4 years).
  4. In recognition of his great service to the CDP, Ken Gregory was the proud recipient of one of the 10 inaugural FLAD Awards (Faith, Loyalty and Dedication Awards) at the CDP Convention Gala Dinner.
  5. Arie Baalbergen was legitimately and democratically defeated by Michael Darby, the new CDP NSW Treasurer.
  6. John Phillips declined his nomination to the CDP NSW Management Committee at the CDP NSW AGM after not receiving a seconder for his nomination.
  7. Phil Lamb, the previous CDP NSW State Director, unexpectedly resigned from the CDP after serving only four years of his five-year contract, to join the National Party as their new NSW State Director back in February 2008 and this was six months before the CDP NSW Convention.
  8. Ben Carpentier, the previous CDP NSW Office Manager, resigned of his own accord from CDP NSW, after far less than 12 months with the CDP and he left on 17/7/2008 and this was also well before the CDP NSW Convention.
  9. Fred Nile is actually only 73 years young, has 27+ years of legislative experience, improves most bills in parliament and has served longer than anyone in the current NSW Parliament.
  10. "Fred Nile Group" is a registered addendum to the CDP's name"
I thank Almighty God for the strong, dedicated, united team of CDP loyalists who now form our NSW CDP Management Committee.

I am very confident that our Christian Democratic Party will have a bright future with both enthusiastic young and older members.

God bless you and your family.
