Dutch state committee recommends to raise a fund of 100 billion Euro to strengthen the flood defences along the North Sea and rivers Rhine and Meuse over the next 100 years. The expected climate change may lead to higher water levels on sea and higher river discharges due to heavier rain fall events and more snow melt. Action needs to be taken now to reduce flood risk to acceptable levels set by regulators. The proposed budget should come from long term state bonds and from Dutch gas benefits.
