Another excerpt from "For Which it Stands," which you can find at http://itstands.blogspot.com : If you're like us, out there working hard to make your dreams come true this election, you get frustrated with all of the blatant lies and negative campaigning going on out there. The world of politics is often populated by a certain kind of slug who likes to slime his way through the truth and live in an alternate reality. Truth is not something you create; it is something you live. So while we're bound by the shackles of seeming ineptituderipe with John McCain and Sarah Palin heralding themselves as "change agents"we're reminded, in our times of disenchantment, of the words of a great American motivator--Thomas Paine. "These are the times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value." Paine wrote that in his book The American Crisis, and boy does it sure make you feel all right about our current struggle. The cause of the peoplein small towns and big citiesis what we're all about. What we are engaged in is nothing short of the truest service to our country--and it sure ain't easy. We are tasked with turning back eight whole years of shadows and dark lies. If we fail in our mission, the real truth will succumb to somebody else's political version of the truth. "Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered." Damn straight. But we know that November 4th will be the sweetest day we've had in a long time. We're behind a candidate who has rallied the people around him better than almost any individual in American history--if you call Barack Obama a celebrity, then certainly you could say the same about other "untested, inexperienced" men like George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. These men aren't just words in a civics book; they are America! It is time we stand up and tell John McCain and Sarah Palin that we're not voting for Barack Obama this year because we're naive; no, we're voting for Barack Obama because we are America too! Today, we are reminded to "keep the faith." We all have a decision to make in this country. Not between man or woman, or one version of rhetoric versus another. We have a decision between truth and lies. Between our America and their America. Don't outsource your ability to be great in this nation for another four or eight years. Stand up for you. Stand up for me. Stand up for Barack Obama. Quote of the night, thanks to John R. Bohrer--"John McCain is a maverick like Barry Bonds is home run champ." "Moderation in temper is always a virtue, but moderation in principle is always a vice."--Thomas Paine
