iReport —

Houston residents woke to partial sunshine, little wind and few people on the freeways and streets as they received word that Hurricane Ike was approaching for a Galveston landfall.

Businesses small and large weren't taking any chances.  They boarded their windows with plywood. The Mercedes dealership on the 59 feeder road drove nearly every vehicle on its lot to a safe location.
