Shine On ...
September 17, 2008 | Islamabad, Pakistan | Vetting explained
I was eight. My brother had got the much-awaited P.U.L.S.E DVD and was putting on a show with a couple of his mates in his room. Just at the start, when Wright begins with his keyboard, I peeked into the room and was invited in to watch the show. And what a show it was! There are some pictures and scenes one associates with childhood and the picture of Richard Wright playing his soulful keyboard with a boy swimming on the magnificent circular screen in the background is still vividly etched in my mind.
Pink Floyd gave a whole new meaning and dimension to music. They could take you on to journeys to worlds unknown. They gave birth to an entirely new dimension where one could escape. Pink Floyd not only revolutionized rock, they revolutionized music art form, they revolutionized this most wonderful form of expression ... they revolutionized lives! And Wright's keyboards were an integral part of that magical Floyd sound! David Gilmour is so correct when he says, "In my view, all the greatest Pink Floyd moments are the ones where Rick's in full flow."
When at eight, I saw Rick Wright playing, I dreamt of witnessing Pink Floyd perform at least once in my life. I'm sad that in future, even if my wild dream comes true, I won't be witnessing one of the greatest musicians ever perform ... Richard William Wright.
