Oprah’s book club

Oprah Winfrey has chosen an intense collection of short stories for her 2009 book club. “Say You’re One of Them” by Uwem Akpan features five stories from five different countries in Africa, told from a child’s perspective.

They deal with prostitution, the child sex trade, slavery, refugees, religious strife – but more than that these stories expose the incredible capability of children to deal with the horrors of misfortune, and the other-worldly wisdom that circumstance has given them.
